He started building his own collection of contemporary art in the 1960’s, and opened it to the public in 1993. Born in a distinguished family of avid art collectors, Astrup is continuing in this tradition, thus confirming the family’s place in Norway’s philanthropic history. The Astrup Fearnley Museet is privately owned by the Norwegian entrepreneur and art collector Hans Rasmus Astrup. The museum has been designed to allow visitors to appreciate both the exhibits and the surrounding beauty, which promotes an interaction between the two. The soft architecture of the Astrup Fearnley Museet forms a link with the natural landscape. The soft curves of the sails swollen by the North wind the footbridges spanning the canal that separates the two main buildings enhances his brilliant architecture.Īstrup marked the start of a major cultural redevelopment project for the city of Oslo. ![]() It encompasses an immense triangular glass veil set on the shore of the Oslo’s fjord between blue water and expanses of green grass. Renzo Piano’s design of the new museum of contemporary art in the Tjuvholmen district of Norwegian Capital Oslo, is situated at the end of Aker Brygge (Oslo’s shipyards). The building designed by the world-renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano has two distinct features: i t’s architectural design, and i t’s large private art collection. Since its inauguration in 2012, the Astrup Fearnley Museet for Modern Kunst (Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art) is an iconic cultural venue not only in Norway but in all Nordic countries. ![]()
